Okay, hi guys,
This post is to encourage you, but also a reminder to be wise and not get into to big of a hurry. To have a healthy lifestyle means to change your habits to create a healthier life. You are not dieting, you are designing how you will live for the rest of your life, it will take time and patience. Habits, especially "bad" habits are hard to break, so be gentle with yourself and if you have a bad day, then recommit the next day and just keep moving forward. That is how I am doing it myself. Over the years I have developed some bad habits, and like everyone else, I am now working to redirect my life to a more healthy one.
Foods- remember, lots of fruit and vegetables in a wide variety of the colors of the rainbow. Get your protein, carbs (complex are best), and healthy fats. To lose weight, try do eat a few hundred calories a day less than you burn, but do not go below 1300 calories a day. We do not want your metabolic to slow down. Try to cut down or out refined sugars and white flour. Whole grain flours give your body fiber. Try to eat every two to three hours at least a protein and fruit/ veggie combo to help keep your blood sugar stable. If you want or need help, I will be glad to help you figure out some things to eat. refer to the previous blog on snacks.
Exercise- Try to get your heart rate to aerobic area at least 3 times a week, do a little stretching everyday, and try to fit those strength training sessions (2 times a week) in. I will be giving your more info and exercises for each muscle group in the upcoming weeks. Be careful of your body, if something hurt modify it until your get stronger and more flexible so it does not hurt to do it.
Some other areas we need to be thinking on are stress and sleep. Try to get 7 or more hours of sleep a day. The time you sleep is when your body does the repair work on you tissues and such. It is the time for your body to recover from the demands you make on it each day. We will get time sleeping and tip for helping sleep in a later blog. Stress is also something that need to be reduced to live a healthy lifestyle. It is not alway possible to eliminate or sometimes even cut down the stress in your life, so we will be having blogs on ways to deal stress and how to help minimize the effects of the stress in our lives.
Just wanted to remind you not to give up. I believe you can do it, not that it will always be easy, but you can do it one day at a time! Hang in there!
